Special Episode 1 – Season 1 Wrap-Up

Welcome to the first special episode of Down and Safe, where Michael, Liz, Scott, and Amal discuss the whole of the first series of Blake’s 7, and read out lists. Very exciting lists, as they engage in the time-honoured fannish pursuit of ranking stuff in order of goodness.

This is a useful reminder that this podcast is very probably not safe for work, and may contain mild spoilers for the rest of the Blake’s 7 series throughout the episode (we keep major spoilers to a spoiler section of the podcast that we give warning is going to be particularly spoilery.)

Thank you so much to our Patreon supporters for making this extra episode possible!

(And apologies to everyone – this should have dropped on Thursday, but my schedule made it impossible – Liz.)

  1. At the risk of embarrassing myself by getting the maths wrong, and in the certainty of embarrassing myself by doing this at all, here’s your chart with your ranking positions:

Here’s the Official(?) Down And Safe Series One Combined Ranking List:

And here’s the variance on it, with The Way Back being the episode you agreed least on, and Cygnus Alpha being the episode you most agreed on.

  2. Thank you for an awesome wrap of Season One! I’m so glad I contributed in my own very small way towards making it happen. I pretty much agreed with Michael on his list of episode rankings, but as you said, aside from a couple of clunkers, there’s little wiggle room between the rest.

    Onwards to season 2!

(Oh Amal, you have SO much to look forward to….)

  3. The biggest TV show I can think of where the main character left but the show went on was Taggart, where Mark McManus was in less than a third of the episodes.

  4. Your podcast has been a lot of fun to listen to, so thanks all of you. I have a little bit to add to the consulting Orac section of this episode, so I’m going to rot13 some spoilers:

  6. I love that you made the graph!!

Michael-I’m with you! It was The Way Back that got me to commit to the show and the podcast. (Though, you are so awesome I Amy have listened anyway…). It didn’t have anything to do with the rest of the season, but it really hooked me in terms of the overtly political story it told.

Thanks for a great cast, everyone.

  7. Largely enjoyed the season one podcast.

    My only gripes:

Sometimes you go on way too long on tangents about other shows some of us have never seen. A tad more editing would be nice when the subject runs off the rails.

Also, the volume levels… I listen to the show primarily through ear buds and sometimes I have to crank it to hear some of the mumblier comments, and then BAM you guys blow my eardrums with an explosive laugh or shouty excited taking. Someone should normalize the levels a little bit and bring up the lower stuff.

    Keep it up. 🙂
