Welcome to the fourteenth episode of Down and Safe, where Michael, Liz, Scott, and Amal embark on a discussion of the second episode of season two, Shadow, wherein we wish you a Happy New Year, rather late, and Liz says WInston Churchill when she means Winston Smith and NO-ONE CORRECTED HER.
This is a useful reminder that this podcast is very probably not safe for work, and may contain mild spoilers for the rest of the Blake’s 7 series throughout the episode (we keep major spoilers to a spoiler section of the podcast that we give warning is going to be particularly spoilery.)

I haven’t seen this episode since I was a young teen, and I remember being somewhat peeved by it for some forgotten reason. Your glowing review makes me want to see it again!

“Shadow” episode related fun… I fully intend to someday acquire a desktop zen garden, put some little red transparent tiddlywink pieces in it and call it a “moon disc garden.” I might even put a decorative umbrella in it so that the discs can have some shade.

I have a scifi themed office at my house and a moon disc zen garden would be a perfect addition! What a lovely idea!

Still loving the podcast. “Shadow” was the first episode of Blake’s 7 I ever saw. It was at a Doctor Who convention in the early 80’s. You pretty much could get the idea. Didn’t actually see the rest for about 5 years.

Continuing to be pleased that Amal is enjoying episodes that I also love. Shadow is fun and pacy, and it gives me even more hope that she’s going to like my favourite S3 episodes, too.
Blake is always a colossal asshat when written by Chris Boucher. It’s almost on the edge of being out of character, sometimes, but ultimately while I think it pushes the line, he’s generally just on the right side of it.

Regarding Blake’s costume; I seem to remember that June Hudson was particularily fond of the green batwings. Perhaps that is all there is to the costume choice.
